As we enter, we experience a total change of environment and forget that we are actually in the desert ! First, let me tell you that Chokelao Bagh was laid out in 1739 and further rearranged by Maharaja Takhat Singh in 1844. |
It is the only existing example of a rajput garden and is unique in its three terraces displaying different themes. |
On the first level, is the Chokelao Palace terrace (later to be converted into a restaurant ) overlooking the garden. From here, you’ll see, on the second level, the flower garden desplaying a colorful array of flowers. |
Amazingly, among them, you’ll discover cornflowers, poppies, petunias and sunflowers : they manage to blossom here on the outskirts of the Thar Desert ! |
On the next level, along the carefully maintained parcels, you’ll find lush banana plants and you’ll be amazed to discover their huge purple flowers and big banana clusters ! |
It has a lovely, fresh fragance reminding me of the perfume « Eau d’Orange Verte » by Hermès. |
